V. Olsson Trading Co. is a family business focusing on specialty foods
with Scandinavian origins; either imported directly from Scandinavia or
produced in North America under original Scandinavian recipes. The company
was founded in the 1920's by Adolf Viktor Olsson, a Swedish immigrant, and
is presently owned and managed by the family's third generation.
The company has been in the herring business since its inception. The Skansen label for consumer sized glass jars was started in the 1960's. Previously, all the herring business was in bulk sizes. Today, we search the world over for the absolutely finest quality herring to put under the Skansen label; Herring in Wine Sauce and Sour Cream from Canada and Matjes Herring packed according to our specifications in Finland. Herring is only part of the business, however. A. V. Olsson Trading Co. is very active in the cheese business. We import table cheese from Denmark, Norway and Sweden, industrial cheese from all over the world, and also market Swedish-style cheeses that are produced under our label in California. A. V. Olsson Trading Co. imports non-refrigerated products as well; cookies, crackers, crisp-bread and lingonberries from Norway, Sweden and Finland. We also sell a line of environmentally-friendly consumer paper products, coffee filters and baking paper, under the Beyond Gourmet brand name. |
